Aztec Danzantes

Gracias

For the power of prayer, for the beauty of traditions, for the inspiration of spiritual practice and dedication, we give thanks. Our heartfelt gratitude to GRUPO TEOKALLI, traditional Aztec danzantes whose presence and prayer ceremony touched all of us who were here on October 24th.

We gathered to pray for the hundreds of thousands of native children who for decades were stolen from their families, traumatized, who "never came home". We mourn those who died in the "schools", and we pray for healing of the intergenerational trauma that continues to affect our communities.

This was our dedication for this year's ofrenda for los días de los muertos.

Oraciónes

The sacred copal is carried to bless the space and all those present, and to lift all our prayers.

The rain poured down, mingling with our tears and remembrances of the children and their families.

The invocation to the directions, the calling out to Creator, the handmade ceremonial garments, the feathers, and the hearts of each dancer - all formed a ceremonial space where we can hold such heart-breaking sorrows.

Sacred Sounds

The sacred sounding of the concha, the soaring notes of the flute, the mesmerizing rhythm of the drum and the shaking seed pods, los ayayotes ...

all surrounded everyone and gathered our spirits into the meditation and the prayers.

Sagrada means Sacred ~ the practice of faith and hope and love, whatever your traditions may be.

We honor and thank the danzantes for these deep reminders of what is most important for our time on Earth.

And we pray that our practices move us to the compassionate actions that we are each inspired to take.

Gracias a toda la familia TEOKALLI!

Everyone who came was touched and changed,

and Sagrada will be forever thankful!
